Unit rationale, description and aim

This is the first of two Core Research units in the Master of Education (Research); Master of Educational Leadership and Master of Contemporary Literacies.

Contemporary teaching and educational decision making should be informed by evidence. The unit offers an introduction to understanding educational evidence and the different approaches, methodologies, considerations and challenges involved in gathering evidence. This unit prepares educators to be systematic and critical evaluators of research literature. Students will apply their knowledge to the critical analysis of research publications and evaluate the significance of research findings for educational practice. In addition, students will explore participatory and user-centred research, as well as the ethics of research. This unit provides the foundation for further studies in educational research.
