St Vincent de Paul Broken Bay Central Council Indigenous Scholarship
Leanna Carr-Smith is the 2015 recipient of the St Vincent de Paul Broken Bay Central Council Indigenous Scholarship, a 2nd year Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Indigenous Studies) student and a proud descendant of the Wiradyuri people.

"As an Aboriginal woman I know that education is the key to a better future for my people. Education as always been an intrinsic part of Aboriginal culture. The role I play and would like to continue to play is like many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educators I want to help our children get a good education.

I believe that with my cultural knowledge of Aboriginal pedagogy and cultural inclusion can and will make a difference when it comes to learning for our children, but will benefit all children."

Leanna travels more than two hours from Bathurst to the Strathfield Campus to attend intensive class units. Her scholarship from St Vincent de Paul Broken Bay Central Council significantly assists with fees and resources for her course, allowing her to finish her degree and effect educational change in her community.content here
