Overview

Chemistry examines the composition, properties, and behaviour of matter and the chemical processes that underpin the natural and built world. The teaching area develops students’ understanding of chemical reactions, materials, and energy changes, while building strong analytical, practical, and problem‑solving skills through laboratory practice and scientific inquiry. Chemistry supports pathways into secondary teaching, science‑related roles, and further study, and complements other STEM teaching areas by highlighting chemistry’s central role in contemporary society.
