Overview

The Double Teaching Area in Music provides pre‑service teachers with a comprehensive foundation in both music performance and musicology, preparing them to teach across the full breadth of secondary music curricula. This teaching area develops strong practical musicianship, a deep understanding of music theory and analysis, and the pedagogical skills needed to design engaging, inclusive, and creative learning experiences. Students gain experience with classroom music, ensemble direction, and contemporary approaches to music education, equipping them to support diverse learners and foster a vibrant musical culture within school communities.

Completion requirements

Students in the following courses must complete:

  • Master of Teaching (Secondary)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Internship)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Leading Learning)
  • Master of Teaching (Secondary) /Graduate Certificate in Religious Education


  • 40 cp from Double Music Postgraduate Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) units (Part A)

    Complete exactly 20 credit points from the following:

    Complete exactly 20 credit points from the following:

    Study as part of the First Teaching Area

    Study as part of the Second Teaching Area

  • EDCU652Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Senior Studies 310 CP
