Overview

Youth work is an exciting and challenging minor sequence that introduces you to the theoretical insights and practical competencies required for dealing with the needs, problems and aspirations of young people. The youth work sequence acknowledges the social and cultural environments within which young people live and helps foster young people's emotional and social development. Subjects in the sequence include youth sociology, adolescent development, youth work practice and building relationships and supporting young people and youth work in community and family settings.

Completion requirements

A student must complete 40 cp of the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

a. 20 cp from 100-level units (Part A);

b. 20 cp from 200- and/or 300-level units (Part B).

Complete exactly 20 credit points from the following:

  • YSED100Knowing Young People10 CP
  • YSED104The Developing Young Person10 CP

    *Students completing a Youth Work minor and a Healthy Development minor complete the following unit in the Youth Work minor and the Healthy Development minor.

  • YSED105Ethical Principles and Practice of Youth Work10 CP

Complete exactly 20 credit points from the following:

  • YSED203Building Relationships and Supporting Young People10 CP
  • YSED204Trauma Informed Practice10 CP
  • YSED303Community Development10 CP
