ACU is a member of the 2050 Alliance, a network of universities building a better future for students and communities across Australia.

Along with our partners in the alliance, we are committed to expanding opportunity through increasing participation and productivity to benefit all Australians.

To achieve our national goals for 2050, we need to expand access to higher education for under-represented students and communities, support students to develop the skills they will need to succeed in the future, and share new knowledge and research that will power innovation.

Joining us in the Alliance

Our universities cover more than 65 campuses in inner city, suburban, regional and remote areas, serving diverse communities and teaching over 285,000 students.

The Alliance is made up of nine universities:

What we do

The 2050 Alliance offers a collective focus on public purpose and positive voice, providing thoughtful leadership in public debate about the role of universities in achieving a better future for all Australians.

We work constructively with government on major policy reforms and with partners across the education and innovation systems. We facilitate collaboration, provide evidence-based analysis and share proactive policy recommendations to help Australia reach its goals for 2050.

Why 2050?

Australia has a target of lifting tertiary education attainment to at least 80 per cent of the working-age population by 2050. This is to ensure that Australians have the knowledge and skills they need for the future.

To ensure intergenerational equity, we need a bigger and fairer education system – not just opening doors to opportunity but keeping them open. Our universities are central to this national effort.

There is no time to waste – the decisions we make today will determine our success in 2050. We are dedicated to helping to deliver this long-term vision for Australia, building the system that students and communities need for the future.
