ShareAustralian Catholic University (ACU) Laureate Professor Anne Castles has been recognised in the Sage “Top 20 Most Impactful Research Papers” ranking.

The ranking celebrates research that has achieved the greatest combined scholarly, policy, and public impact over the span of a decade, from 2014 to 2024.
Professor Castles is a world-leading literacy expert, and part of ACU’s Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy.
Her oft-cited paper, Ending the Reading Wars: Reading Acquisition From Novice to Expert, was co-authored with Professor Kathleen Rastle from the University of London and Professor Kate Nation from the University of Oxford and originally published in Psychological Science in the Public Interest.
“It is very rewarding to see how this paper has allowed the extensive work carried out by so many literacy researchers to reach the people who can make best use of it - teachers, clinicians, and other professionals," Professor Castles said.
Professor Castles is currently leading a five-year Australian Research Council Laureate research project investigating literacy in adolescence.
