Enriching students with a global perspective

Students from Walsh University in Ohio, United States are visiting Australian Catholic University (ACU)’s Rome Campus as a result of a new partnership between the two universities.

ACU’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Global and Education Pathways Mr Chris Riley and Walsh University’s President Dr Timothy J. Collins signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 1 June that will support and facilitate collaboration between the two institutions.

The collaboration opens the door for students and staff at both institutions to engage in education abroad, staff mobility and collaborative research opportunities, beginning with a four-week faculty-led program for Walsh University students at ACU’s campus in Rome this month.

Speaking about the collaboration, Mr Riley said, “This is an exciting development in the relationship between ACU and Walsh University and builds on our shared commitment to enriching educational experiences and research in support of the common good.”

“This Memorandum of Understanding gives us a solid foundation to further explore bilateral relations between ACU and Walsh University to support and advance a range of collaborations extending to students, faculty and staff.”

“Walsh University is delighted to enter into partnership with Australian Catholic University to enhance our Global Learning programming,” said Teresa Fox, Chief Public Affairs Officer for Walsh University.

“Enriching students with a global perspective is a critical part of Walsh’s mission. Our shared commitment to Catholic education will allow both universities to help students fulfill their life purpose, become leaders prepared to serve our world, and foster collaboration between our faculty.”

The objectives of the MOU include opening up unilateral or bilateral study abroad programs; exchange agreements for both academic and administrative staff; and collaborative curriculum development to facilitate the implementation of student mobility programs.

Other forms of academic collaboration include research, development and delivery of joint courses; organisation of and participation in seminars; technical assistance; exchange of information including library materials and research publications; and joint participation in internationally funded projects.

ACU’s MOU with Walsh University extends ACU’s global network of partnerships, consisting of more than 200 universities across 40 countries.
