Educational Leaders and the project of professionalisation in early childhood education in Australia

The research has identified that Australian early childhood Educational Leaders’ work is motivated by the professionalisation of their workforce. The research reports on Phase 1 the ARC Discovery project Learning-rich Leadership for Quality Improvement in Early Education directed by Professor Joce Nutall. Published in International Journal of Education Research, the article lead by Dr Jenny Martin provides an analysis of interviews using cultural historical activity theory with educational leaders from Darwin and Melbourne showing that this 'project of professionalisation' subsumes the international quality agenda. New knowledge from the research highlights that policy assumptions overlook processes supporting professionalisation.
