How to make the most of Open Day
28 August 2017Share
Open Day gives students who are thinking of studying at ACU a chance to weigh up the options available. It’s important to check out the place where you will spend at least the next three years of your life.
Here are our tips for making the most of the day:
A key task before you attend Open Day is to read the course guide and course requirements, which can be found online. Many questions you want to ask about the course and ACU will be answered there.
Draft a few questions beforehand
It is worth taking the time to jot down some questions, to make sure you don’t forget to ask anything on the day itself.
Talk to the people in red and purple
Open Day is designed to give you the opportunity to ask questions that can’t be answered online so make sure you talk to as many staff members and current students (they will be the ones wearing the red and purple hoodies) as possible.
Current students are your best source for understanding uni life. Like you, they were weighing up study options not so long ago and they probably had many of the same questions.
Get down to the nitty gritty
Don’t be afraid to ask tough questions. Like: ‘All universities offer Exercise Science – so why should I choose ACU?’ Or: ‘I’m thinking of applying to UNSW and they do X or Y – how does that compare to what ACU offers?’
We won’t hold it against you, far from it. It shows that you are serious.
Attend info sessions
You don’t want to miss out on information sessions about student support services and resources, overseas study opportunities, and sporting opportunities. They will give you a great picture of life outside the lecture theatre.
Document the important stuff
Be sure to take notes and photos as you make your way around campus; these will help jog your memory two months later when you’ve been to several universities.
