As parishes across Australia are contemplating the introduction or reintroduction of the chalice, the ACU Centre for Liturgy, in partnership with the Archdiocese of Melbourne, is offering two free in-person refresher sessions on Ministering the Chalice for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion so that they can be well-prepared and ready for changes in ministry. These workshops will not offer full training for new ministers but may be of interest to those considering volunteering for training in this very important ministry.

Each session:

  • Explores the significance of the Eucharist and liturgical ministry.
  • Provides a brief overview of the Mass, with a focus on the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
  • Includes practical demonstrations relating to ministering the chalice and host.
  • Concludes with a discussion on key considerations of Communion ministry.

In the lead-up to the workshop, advice will be provided for parish-wide catechesis to prepare the community for the introduction or reintroduction of the chalice.
