Now you’re a research candidate, you’re a part of a community in the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy exploring big questions and ideas.

Throughout your degree, you’ll have access to dedicated faculty support and opportunities to take part in a range of events.

For general information about studying a higher degree by research (HDR) at ACU, head to the Graduate Research School. There you'll find forms, policies and information about your candidature.

Milestone seminars are a key part of your HDR journey. Confirmation of candidature takes place at six months, the mid-candidature review at 18 months, and the final year review at 30 months (for full-time students. These will be pro-rata for part time enrolment). At each milestone, you’ll submit chapters of your thesis for feedback and prepare an oral presentation.

The seminars are designed to help you to meet key deadlines through your degree, ensuring that you’re able to demonstrate the progress you’re making in your research.

If you have questions about an upcoming milestone seminar, please email FTP's HDR Coordinator.

Research seminars

The faculty invites you to attend a range of research seminars, reading groups and special events held throughout the year including:

Specialist training

We offer one-off workshops and ongoing training to enrich your HDR experience and support growth beyond your degree.

Our advanced reading groups, for proficient students, will allow you to develop your abilities in Greek, Latin, German or Hebrew. If you're interested in joining any of these groups, please email Jonathan Zecher.

Check back here for more training and workshop opportunities as they are announced throughout the year.

Funding

The faculty has some funds available to support student research, including conference travel, fieldwork and archival research.

For more information about the Postgraduate Research Student Support Scheme (PRSSS), including how to apply and the scheme guidelines, please email the Coordinator of Graduate Student Experience.
