Be part of the ACU Big Sing for a big cause, a collaborative, community wide project involving multiple campuses.

The Big Sing: Performances in August of Street Requiem - for those who died on the street, composed in 2014 by ACU's own Kathleen McGuire, together with Andy Payne and Jonathon Welch AM. Designed for community participation, the music is inspirational, accessible, multi-faith and multi-language. Joining with other choirs from the community, including marginalised people, more than 100 voices will join to create a BIG sing!

The big cause

The project aims to raise awareness and funds to support people who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity - a cause much closer to our community than we may realise. Surprisingly, many of our current students experience housing insecurity.

How to participate

There are several ways you can be involved, including:

  • singing in a choir (on campus or remote, depending on location -- no auditions or experience needed)
  • play in the orchestra
  • help as a volunteer with organising or at a performance
  • research with the theme: Transformational Learning in Higher Education.

Rehearsal options

Rehearsals commenced at the start of semester 1, but you can easily catch up with the options below:

  • Rehearse on campus (lunchtime on Wednesdays at the Melbourne campus) coming soon to Brisbane or Ballarat.
  • Join in a Zoom (Wednesday evenings) or watch the Zoom recording in your own time.
  • Join with an external community choir learning the music on weekends (starting after Easter).
  • Access rehearsal resources to practise at home (via the Choir websites listed below - look for the Resources tab). Audio available now. Sheet music coming soon (and visible on the Zoom recordings).
  • A combination of all of these.
