The worm and I is an exhibition by Bachelor of Arts (Honours) student Lara Girgis that explores life with chronic health conditions. It’s also an ode to the earthworm.

This autobiographical body of work seeks to draw attention to the way people relate to their physical bodies as well as acting as a means for Lara to process her experiences of diagnosis and life with type 1 diabetes. The earthworm is an ever changing, ever wriggling, allegory for this experience. Through the exhibition, Lara aims to encourage those living with invisible illnesses and chronic health conditions and demonstrate the importance of combining art with medicine.
