Prof. Falkenburg has published Especulationessobreel paisaje: del Bosco a Bruegel (2019), Bruegel (2018, co-authored with Michel Weemans), The Land of Unlikeness: Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Early Delights (2011), The Fruit of Devotion: Mysticism and the Imagery of Love in Flemish Paintings of Virgin and Child, 1450-1550(1994), and Joachim Patinir: Landscape as an Image of the Pilgrimage of Life (1988). He is working on a monograph provisionally called Painting Bad -Early 17th-Century 'schilderachtig' Landscape Painting. Falkenburg is Special Academic Advisor and Visiting Professor at NYU/AD, where he has also served as Vice Provost for Intellectual and Cultural Outreach and Dean of Arts and Humanities, after appointments as Professor in, and Chair of, the Department of Art History at Leiden University, Professor of Western Art History and Religion at the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley, and Deputy Director of the Netherlands Institute for Art History in The Hague.
