His work has concentrated on fourth- and fifth-century Christian theology, especially the doctrine of the Trinity, and modern doctrine in the Roman Catholic tradition. His publications include Nicaea and Its Legacy: An Approach to Fourth-Century Trinitarian Theology (Oxford University Press, 2004/6) and Augustine and the Trinity (Cambridge University Press, 2010).
