The Community Place works to build a connected, inclusive, and supportive community where people feel welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate.

Operating across our Stafford and Kalinga Neighbourhood Centres in Brisbane's inner north. We aim to build vibrant neighbourhood centres delivering a wide range of community programs, practical support services, social connection opportunities, and local events for people of all ages and backgrounds. Each week, our centres host activities including English conversation classes, gentle fitness programs, craft and sewing groups, playgroups, community gaming events, emergency relief support, No Interest Loans (NILS), wellbeing activities, and volunteer-led initiatives. We believe strong communities are created through connection, participation, and mutual support, and our volunteers play an essential role in helping us achieve this every day. Volunteering with The Community Place offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the local community, develop skills and confidence, meet new people, and be part of a welcoming organisation that values compassion, inclusion, and community spirit.

The Roles

Playgroup

The volunteer role will involve assisting the Playgroup Coordinator, who is also the Community Engagement Worker, in supporting the delivery of a welcoming and engaging community playgroup program during school terms. The playgroup is a highly valued community program attended by approximately 30-40 families each week, creating a busy and vibrant environment where volunteers are genuinely needed to help support both families and staff. Volunteers will assist with coordinated activities, engage with parents, carers, and children, support play experiences, and help create a warm and inclusive atmosphere for everyone attending. The role also includes practical support such as setting up and packing away equipment and activity spaces, preparing resources, and assisting the coordinator to ensure sessions run smoothly and safely. Additional volunteer support is greatly needed to help meet the growing demand for the program and continue providing a positive and supportive experience for local families.

English Classes

The Community Place hosts a fun English Program each week at both our Stafford and Kalinga Community Centre locations. Each week we encourage all community members from all different cultures to gather at The Community Place in the spirit of friendship and learning. The classes are suitable for all levels of English.
