MWP Community Care has been assisting the elderly and aged care residents of the northern beaches since 1967. Our Neighbour Aid and Home Modification Services allow our clients to live at home for as long as possible in a safe and independent manner.

As well as offering social support and home building services, we also offer an exciting events and outings calendar, that allows our clients to socially interact in a safe and welcoming environment. We would welcome the opportunity for ACU Students to be a part of our events + outings program, and also assist our staff in designing and implementing a virtual calendar to teach our clients the latest technology.

The role

Students will be escorting our elderly clients on our social outings both in and out of the office as well as assisting staff with designing and implementing a monthly virtual event calendar. Outings might include going to see a movie, trip to a museum, shopping trip or lunch at a café. You can view an example of the events calendar here.

As technology plays an integral role in all our daily lives, we feel it is important to support our older residents by assisting them to learn how to use simple technology such as facetime and Facebook to better enable them to stay in touch with their loved ones. We would also like students to help our team design a virtual calendar, whereby we offer these opportunities to our clients and then teach them here in our boardroom how to use an iPad (MWP Care provided), a smart phone and a computer. We offer two sessions per month on a Tuesday for the client to attend our office providing a “troubleshooting” service for their individual needs. These may include setting up an email address, installing apps, setting up accounts and paying accounts with providers such as Service NSW as well as emailing photos and exploring Google etc.

Students must display patience, an appreciation of the difficulty of teaching our older generations technology, and an understanding of how we can overcome these barriers together.
