Dr Alda Balthrop-Lewis awarded Shannon Fellowship

Dr Alda Balthrop-Lewis awarded Shannon Fellowship by the International Thomas Merton Society.

Dr Alda Balthrop-Lewis has been named a 2021-2022 Shannon Fellow by the International Thomas Merton Society. The Shannon Fellowship supports archival research related to the life and thought of Thomas Merton (1915-1968). Dr Balthrop-Lewis will use the fellowship to support her current book project, Politics and Contemplation: Thomas Merton in Dialogue with the 1960s, which examines the significance of ascetic theology and practice for contemporary environmental politics.

Dr Alda Balthrop-Lewis is a Research Fellow in Religion and Theology at the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry.
