HUMA318 The Literature and Drama of New York City gives you the unparalleled opportunity to read literary texts, attend performances and immerse yourself in theatres, galleries and museums that provided the creative impetus to these works.

Study in Paris

Explore the politics, ideologies and the very human stories underlining the emergence of modernism in avant-garde movements such as Romanticism, neo-classicism, realism, impressionism, cubism, Dada and surrealism in Paris. 

HUMA253 The Art of France from Empire to Modernity makes the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Georges Pompidou, Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles your classroom.

Study in Venice

This unit immerses students in the life of Venice by attending the world’s oldest, largest and most prestigious international exhibitions of contemporary art. Learn to analyse art works in situ and develop a global perspective on cultural production and human experience.

Visual arts students can attend one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious international exhibitions of contemporary art, the Venice Biennale, as part of their studies. As the event is biennial, the tour occurs on alternate years.

ARTS338 Venice Biennale is open to students who have achieved 20 credit points from 200-level units, ARTS112 Art in the Early 20th Century and ARTS237 Postmodern Art in the 20th Century.

Study in Rome

Study at our campus in Rome in either February or during the July semester break. Roman culture, ancient architecture and art by the masters and are all at your fingertips as you study subjects as diverse as history and geography, screen studies and medieval Europe.

HUMA252 Art, Politics and Society in Renaissance and Baroque Rome

HIST208 Fascist Europe examines the history of European fascism from its intellectual roots in the 19th century to the killing fields of World War II. You will explore the ideological and social origins of fascism, rival and changing interpretations of fascism, key issues in relation to fascism in power, and the role of anti-Semitism in fascist theory and practice.

HUMA252 Art, Politics and Society in Renaissance and Baroque Rome takes you to the ‘Rome of the Popes’ which was one of the key centres of the High Renaissance and the birthplace of Baroque. By focusing on these periods in a two-week intensive field trip, you will engage with the works in situ, looking at how art practice was influenced by the beliefs and politics of the time. Being face-to-face with the actual art and architecture in Rome lets you understand the scale and setting for each of the master works we visit.

Study the Core overseas

Arts students can opt to study the university core unit UNCC300: Understanding Self and Society at one of ACU's partner universities in Paris, Florence, Milan, London and Beijing. The unit is also being offered at our campus in Rome.

Beginning with questions of personal identity and values, in this unit students consider various questions of human existence, meaning and purpose as they arise in the contemporary world. How we answer such questions shapes all our interactions personal and professional and governs our responses to the situations we encounter.

Complete your Community Engagement overseas 

School of Arts students also have the opportunity to complete HUMA247 Community Engagement and the Civic Professional by participating in the two-week community engagement program 'Live, Give, Learn' in either Thailand or Cambodia.

These programs are supported by a partnership between ACU's Institute of Advanced Community Engagement (IACE) and Challenges Abroad Australia (CAA).
