Matthew describes his life while at ACU, his studies and career ambitions below.
Bachelor of Commerce, with a major in accounting.
After leaving school I went to TAFE and studied a Certificate III, IV and Advanced Diploma of Accounting. This was followed by a Diploma of Financial Planning and an Associate Degree in Accounting before joining ACU to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce.
ACU has a partnership with TAFE whereby after completing the Associate Degree in Accounting you gain automatic entry into the third year at ACU. ACU was sold as being a similar teaching style to TAFE - small lecture rooms in comparison to your bigger universities and lecturers and tutors actually care about the success of their students.
My university experience was all that I had expected. The timetable suited my work/life balance, and the opportunity to approach lecturers and tutors with any concerns and questions was always there. The facilities are great and easily accessible.
Both my lecturers and tutors were very approachable and easy to talk to. They were always helping students to strive for success and greatness.
Prospective students should really consider ACU for the fantastic friendly environment, and approachable lecturers and tutors.
Currently I am working as the National Development and Innovations Accountant for McDonalds, Australia.
After completion of my degree I am hoping to continue to study into the CA program, then one day return to complete my masters. In the meantime my goal is to be successful in my current role and take all the learnings from my ACU degree and apply them in my workplace.
I have grown up in a finance family where my dad was also an accountant. This made me fall in love with numbers and accounting in general. I was lucky enough to have help throughout my studies and continue to do so. I was also lucky and privileged enough to be able to receive a Sydney TAFE excellence award for excellent results at TAFE, and the Moore Stephens award at ACU for good results in auditing and finally the CPA award for coming 1st overall in accounting units. Other interests include an enjoyment of all sports - both playing and watching, as well as socialising.
