Dr Richard Johnston is the Course Coordinator for the Master of High Performance Sport at ACU. Rich currently works as an applied sport scientist carrying out research and practice in a number of team sports. This includes work with Norths Devils RLFC, Queensland Rugby League, Brisbane Lions and the Brisbane Broncos. His research focuses on understanding the relationship between training load, injury, fitness and performance and quantifying the demands of the game to help develop game specific training for team sport athletes.
Rich’s talk will focus on the use of player tracking and wearable technology in team sports and how this technology can be used to inform training prescription and monitoring of responses to training. Rich will talk his way through some current and recent research they have been conducting that has helped shape delivery of training.
