Paul is a Reader in Strength and Conditioning at the University of Salford, where he is also the programme leader for the Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning. He has a wealth of experience working with numerous professional and semi-professional sports teams (primarily, Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer). Paul has also authored / co-authored >100 peer reviewed journal articles, numerous book chapters and is a senior associate editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

Synopsis of talk

Paul will start by discussing the correct performance of the isometric mid-thigh pull and the appropriate interpretation of specific force-time variables, progressing on to the use of the countermovement jump assessments, and the multitude of variables, which can be calculated from the force-time record. Finally, Paul will briefly discuss the practical applications of such assessments in terms of planning and periodization.
