John has a broad multi-disciplinary background in the social sciences and humanities associated with the study of physical education and sport. This has been tempered by a range and depth of experience in the academic world as administrator, researcher and teacher. It has been grounded in a practical history of involvement in sport administration, sport development, curriculum design, development, moderation and review. An international perspective is central to his thinking and actions and this has been nurtured by membership of and leadership roles in international societies. Of greatest personal importance perhaps is a wish to claim an underpinning passion for sport's role in contributing to a better world and for the responsibility of all involved with sport, to preserve its integrity and promote those unique characteristics that explain that potential for human good. John is the Editor in Chief of the journal International Sports Studies, and is a Director with the Victorian Institute of Sport.
