EXSC312 River Journeys and Connections to Place
Prerequisites EXSC202 Journeying in the Natural World
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.
This unit will examine river environments within the context of river conservation issues and ecology. River journeys will enable students to place ‘slow travel’ in the context of different applications for outdoor learning, program development and outcomes. It will also enable students to experience different modes of river travel on different rivers. They will explore traditional attitudes of caring for river environments as well as trace more recent historical and political histories of our river environments. Indigenous Australian practices and relationships with land will be explored within the framework of the Murray and Yarra rivers in Victoria.
