EDLA522 Literacy for TESOL
Pre or Co-requisites EDLA520 The Nature of English and EDLA521 TESOL in Practice
In this unit students will study the relationships between spoken and written language as well as the nature of literacy and its role in learning and participating in different social and cultural contexts. This will be in the context of the importance of ESL students having access to a range of literacy practices. Current theories of reading, writing, viewing and representing processes, as well as literacy as social practice, will be explored in terms of relevance to second language learners and implications for teachers of English. Students will design and evaluate tasks for developing literacy in all its forms; print, visual and multi-modal for learners at various levels of competency in English.
