EDCU623 Social Justice, Identity and Curriculum
This unit investigates and critiques the interrelationship between social justice, curriculum development, and the development of identity, especially Catholic identity, in increasingly pluralistic, multicultural school communities. The unit explores curriculum theory and critical education studies to examine examples of teaching for social justice and argues for a transformative curriculum that challenges existing inequity in social, educational and economic relations. Curriculum issues emerging in local, national and global educational contexts are examined and critiqued in the light of social justice practices, pedagogy and student learning. Current research in the area of Catholic identity and formation is also investigated in the light of curriculum development and design.
