About public health

Public health practitioners dedicate their lives to improving the health and wellbeing of the population through a range of interventions, including policy development and planning, health promotion, research and advocacy. Understand the wider impacts social change, economic progress and political environments have on the health care system and how changing technologies can be harnessed to keep communities healthy.

Enhancing the lives of others on a global scale requires determination, high-level thinking, effective organisation and an understanding of society’s complexities. Our courses build your soft skills in persuasive communication, effective collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving and strategic management allowing you to achieve positive outcomes through each stage of planning, developing and evaluating health interventions.

Expand your knowledge of Australian and global health

You’ll be equipped with a generalist knowledge in Australian and international public health, learning about health systems, disease prevention, emergency preparedness and management, communications, public policy and legislation, health economics and epidemiology.

Pathways to diverse employment

Our courses train you to be a well-rounded practitioner and open the door to employment in a variety of settings, including community health services, hospitals, not-for-profit health organisations, government departments, private businesses, research institutions, city councils and more. Roles our graduates have taken on include policy analysts, project officers, program evaluators, academics, researchers, health administrators, public health advocates, community development workers and much more.

Real world job training

Sharpen your skills through real-life scenarios and put the theory you are learning into practice when you complete 200 hours of public health professional practice. You’ll build professional networks and gain insight into a range of public health environments. You’ll also have the opportunity to complete a community engagement elective.
