Nikita is a medical doctor who qualified with first class honours from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 2016. She subsequently spent three years practicing within the South African public health care system in both rural and urban hospitals. She also recently graduated from the Institute of Performance Nutrition with her Diploma in Performance Nutrition. In addition, she is a middle distance triathlete, aiming to qualify for world championships in her age-group. Nikita is now combining her passion for both sport and health in her PhD, under the supervision of Professors John Hawley and Louise Burke, investigating the health and performance implications of relative energy deficiency in sport. Her aim is to expand on the endocrine and metabolic effects of low energy availability in athletes and develop a tool for improved identification, diagnosis, and treatment.
