Dr Andrew Garnham is a Specialist Sport and Exercise Physician who has dual roles in research and clinical practice. This brings together his interests in human performance and the role of exercise in improving health and modifying a wide range of disease conditions. Andrew has worked with a wide range of sports, from recreational to Olympic and world championship level, including athletics, cycling, swimming, basketball and gymnastics, as well as a long-term involvement with injury management and research in ballet.

Andrew has a special interest and responsibility in ensuring tissue samples are consistent and of high quality. As this research requires the participation of human volunteers under a wide range of exercise demands and environmental conditions, participant safety considerations are paramount. To ensure reliable and reproducible results, the sampling process must cause minimal disruption to exercise capability, before, during and after exercise, and innovative techniques have been developed.
