Thesis: Behavioural Change in the Unemployed

Employment is overwhelmingly shown to improve well-being across academic literature. This thesis examines whether all jobseekers are genuinely committed to jobseeking and if a ‘Stage of Change’-inspired measure can predict the likelihood of an individual returning to work. We evaluate the development and effectiveness of a behavioural science ‘nudge’ via a stage-matched intervention model. Then we attempt to uncover what it is, specifically, that enhances an individual’s desire and success to proactively seek and enter employment.
