Michele Haynes is Professor of Data Analytics in Education Research at ILSTE. She is an accredited statistician (Statistical Society of Australia) with extensive experience as a statistical methodologist, statistical consultant and project leader in quantitative social research. Michele has expertise in the estimation of complex models for social applications using data from multiple sources including national panel surveys and government administrative data. Her research focus is on methodological innovation for longitudinal social research including analysis of academic performance and well-being trajectories for children through the school years and identifying the factors that trigger improvements and maintain performance. Michele is currently lead researcher on an Education Horizon project that uses administrative data to investigate factors that impact on long-term achievement and retention for students with autism spectrum disorder in Queensland government schools, and a co-investigator on an ARC Linkage grant for a project that studies the effectiveness of community-based STEM professional learning for teachers of middle years.
Michele has influenced social statistics research through editorial roles including Associate Editor for the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A (Statistics in Society) and Statistical Advisor for the International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, as well as through the delivery of professional training in longitudinal data analysis to government personnel. She has considerable experience leading projects for government agencies, including the Australian Federal Police, the Commonwealth Department of Social Services (DSS), Queensland Department of Premier and Cabinet and Queensland Department of Education.
