The International Student Emergency Relief Fund is focused on supporting international students whose access to legal employment has been impacted and complements relief programs offered by Victorian universities, education providers and the government. 

The Victorian Government is committed to supporting our international student community to ensure you feel safe and supported during this difficult period. The Victorian Government has announced a $45 million International Student Emergency Relief Fund for international students facing financial hardship. The International Student Emergency Relief Fund is focused on supporting international students whose access to legal employment has been impacted and complements relief programs offered by Victorian universities, education providers and the government.

The Victorian Government is providing emergency funding payments of $1,000 to eligible students.

Requirements

The Victorian state government has set the following eligibility criteria.
You must be an international student:

  • who was enrolled at ACU on or before  March 31 2020
  • who has a student visa or bridging visa (with a student visa application in process) 
  • who is currently enrolled at ACU at the time of submitting an application for assistance
  • who currently resides in Victoria, Australia and is presently physically located in Victoria
  • who has been engaged in legal work in Victoria anytime from March to July 2020 and has experienced exceptional circumstances of financial hardship due to coronavirus (COVID-19).  The circumstances of hardship arise from

a. a significant reduction in hours of employment
OR
b. Loss of employment due to a business shutdown
AND
c. You are unable to supplement lost income from other sources of financial support

Documentary evidence required

  • Evidence of employment – Payslips, employment contract
  • Evidence of termination of employment or reduced shifts
  • Bank statement for last 30 days
  • Any other documentation that you believe supports your claim
  • Copy of passport ID page
