About mental health

Our suite of postgraduate programs specialising in mental health are designed to equip you, an allied health professional, with the knowledge and skills to better understand and support the mental health challenges of your clients. You will build key skills and knowledge with a focus on recovery and trauma-informed care to respond to the needs of consumers and carers, while keeping pace with changes to policy and service delivery.

Whole person focus

Clients coming to you for allied health support based around their physical challenges often also deal with related mental health challenges. Our postgraduate programs work with your speciality to give insight into identifying their state of mental fitness, allowing you to tailor your treatment accordingly.

Supporting mental fitness

There is increasing awareness in society that an individual’s mental health impacts on their overall wellbeing. Our mental health postgraduate programs recognise it is critical to support and develop both a client's physical and mental fitness. You will learn how to provide that support, as well as identify when clients require additional expertise from a qualified psychologist or psychiatrist.

Add CBT to your degree

Stand out from competitors by studying a specific unit in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at ACU. Offered at both the graduate diploma and master’s level, CBT is an intervention of choice in contemporary mental health service delivery and is an effective treatment option.

Join fellow professionals

Our mental health courses are for professionals who have completed a bachelor degree or higher in a health discipline. These courses are specifically aimed at allied health professionals looking to upskill and enhance their experience and knowledge, such as occupational therapists, social workers, speech pathologists, physiotherapists, pharmacists, dieticians or audiologists.
