About clinical exercise physiology

Exercise physiology is a recognised allied health profession in Australia, with exercise physiologists now an integral part of interdisciplinary health care teams in hospitals and private practice. Exercise physiologists use scientific rationale to design, deliver and measure exercise programming for people with acute, chronic or complex health conditions. As an accredited exercise physiologist, you’ll improve people’s physical capabilities to help them regain independence, aid their daily activities, reduce risks or manage chronic diseases.

Build clinical expertise

Refine your clinical decision-making skill set, integrate effective biopsychosocial approaches into your practice, and develop valid and reliable ways to measure clinical outcomes.

A client-centred approach

Support clients who have chronic and complex conditions by developing safe and effective exercise interventions that provide life-improving results. Our expert academics will equip you with the skills and knowledge to take a leading role in the recovery and rehabilitation of people in need.

Go places with a placement

Get crucial clinical experience while you study. Our clinical exercise physiology student practitioners complete a minimum of 360 hours of clinical placement across a number of target pathology areas, including cardiopulmonary, metabolic, neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation as well as rehabilitation for those with cancer, or those living with mental illness. As a student practitioner, you will have the opportunity to undertake placements in ACU’s own Exercise Lifestyle Clinics. You will also undertake clinical placements in hospitals, community health settings, private practices and with a range of workplace rehabilitation providers.
