About secondary education

ACU Secondary education students sitting at an outdoor table on campus

Help shape tomorrow’s adults into compassionate, responsible citizens. Our secondary education degrees combine core teaching studies with specialist teaching areas so your students will be inspired by your knowledge, passion and expertise for your area of specialisation. And as you progress through your degree, your extensive and varied professional experience placements will ensure you’ll become adept and confident preparing, managing and inspiring a class on your own.

Become a subject expert

Spend the next four years following your passion so you can take your knowledge into the classroom. During your degree you’ll be given a thorough foundation of innovative and best-practice teaching techniques, but you’ll also focus on two particular areas of study that will become your subject teaching areas, within humanities, technology, visual arts or mathematics streams.

Dr Miriam Tanti

State Head of Education NSW/ACT

Dr Miriam Tanti lectures in information and communication technology and is interested in computing curriculum and methods to integrate technology into teaching practice. Since joining ACU in 2008, Dr Tanti has prepared both undergraduate and postgraduate students to teach in contemporary learning environments through the meaningful integration of digital technologies. She has also worked with schools and school leaders to develop effective science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) problem- and project-based learning frameworks and action research. Prior to ACU, Dr Tanti taught in secondary schools, specifically in technological and applied studies. Dr Tanti completed her PhD through the University of Sydney. Her PhD and subsequent research have emphasised developing a slow ontological and philosophical framework that presents a vision for sustainable learning, and she is currently writing a book on this topic.
