ACU is involved in a number of initiatives to support the Catholic community in Australia in relation to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Key to these initiatives is the expertise of our Institute of Child Protection Studies (ICPS). The Institute was established in 2005 and is now a nationally-recognised centre of excellence in the area of child, youth and family welfare.
ACU’s approach is based on the development of a research-led Capability Framework that underpins all our offerings in a cohesive and structured manner so that our Catholic community can integrate safeguarding practice in ways that are suitable for each Diocese and their specific needs. These capabilities are based on the expertise of ICPS together with our Faculties of Education and Arts; Health Sciences; Law and Business; and Theology and Philosophy. These offerings include a range of online units and modules and professional development material that can be credited towards formal qualifications.
The Safeguarding Children and Young People portal links organisations to resources, training and up-to-date research, helping them create an environment that’s transparent and accountable for keeping children safe.
