Community engagement refers to collaborations between universities and their larger communities for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.
At ACU, community engagement allows our staff and students to work collaboratively with community groups and organisations to achieve mutually agreed goals that build capacity, improve wellbeing, empower students and communities, and produce just and sustainable outcomes in the interests of people, communities, and the University.
We value community engagement as:
- a key means of advancing our Mission in serving the common good and enhancing the dignity and wellbeing of people and communities, especially those most marginalised or disadvantaged
- integral to our teaching, learning and research
- affirming relationships that depend on trust and genuine partnerships with community organisations, institutions and corporations.
I know the difference I made to people during my community engagement placement and I know that I am a different person – a better person.” Meghan, student
