Information Technology in Early Childhood

Professor Susan Edwards presents keynote address at 2018 DEKTA Annual Conference: 2.30pm, Thursday 30 August 2018.

Young children are engaging in digital play more often at home and in their communities. This presentation reflects on what the term digital play means and how teachers can think about digital technology in their early childhood education settings. What and how should children be learning from digital play? Should digital technology always be used in early childhood education? What do educators believe and value about digital technologies and the value of young children’s play as they are growing up in a digital age.

Susan Edwards is Professor of Education in the Institute for Learning Sciences and Teacher Education (ILSTE), Australian Catholic University, where she currently directs the Early Childhood Futures research program. Her research investigates the role of play-based learning in the early childhood curriculum for the 21st century.
