Founded in 2016, Kicking Goals Together (KGT) is a sport for development program that operates on the Brisbane campus. KGT involves a soccer tournament running for 16 weeks in semester 1 and 2 and includes teams from refugee and migrant backgrounds, and international student cohorts.

KGT partners with Multicultural Australia to also offer educational opportunities related to networking and personal brand, job seeking and keeping, English language, and leadership. KGT also partners with ACU’s Health, Sport, and Wellbeing department, ACU International, and importantly, local communities from refugee and migrant backgrounds in delivering this program. In 2017, KGT received support from a Brisbane City Council Healthy and Physical Activity grant.

In 2016, KGT won the Vice-Chancellor’s award for outstanding community engagement. In 2017, KGT received the Australian University Sport (Australian Sports Commission) Award for Community Leadership. In 2018, KGT was nominated for an Australian Financial Review Higher Education Award for Community Engagement.
