The Big Issue is a non-religious, non-for-profit social enterprise that supports individuals experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage. The Big Issue run The Big Issue Challenge which is a half-day experience connected to their Big Issue magazine initiative.

In the challenge, teams will be on the streets of the CBD selling the magazine alongside one of the Big Issue’s vendors. It is an opportunity for staff engagement, volunteering and team building while being in the shoes of the vendors. The teams will travel via train to vendor locations from the Redfern train station into the Sydney CBD.

Redfern office, 125-127 Little Eveleigh Street, Redfern

Weekdays, 9:30am-12:30pm

Volunteers will need to have Opal cards pre-loaded with funds for the commute. The cost of travel is not included in the overall cost of the Challenge.

$1,800 plus GST for up to 20 people and $100 per person thereafter.

Up to 35 people per session. The number of available places will be determined by The Big Issue’s availability on the selected day.

If you are participating in this opportunity under community engagement time release, then you are covered by ACU's insurances. If you are accessing this opportunity as a volunteer outside of ACU, then you are NOT covered by ACU's insurance policies. If accessing this opportunity as a volunteer we strongly recommend you confirm with the organisation that they have appropriate insurance for volunteers.
