Our Big Kitchen (OBK) is a community-run, non-denominational, industrial kitchen where meals are prepared for distribution to needy people across Sydney. OBK offers a place for people to come together and cook for a good cause. Teams can choose whether they want to take the meals and donate them to an organisation of their choosing or if they would like to have OBK donate them to one of their partner charities and shelters.

The program includes:

  • Arrive, snack on arrival
  • Talk about OBK, team bonding, the people OBK supports, and relevant stories
  • Cooking a hot meal
  • Making a dessert
  • Lunch Break (OBK Provides lunch, the participants will get a sample of the meal they prepared)
  • Package meal with “company” logo
  • Closing Talk and photo

Our Big Kitchen, 36 Flood Street, Bondi

Weekdays, 2.5 to 3 hour duration. Sessions begin at 10am and 1pm.

Dress: wear closed shoes, and long pants.

$90 per person for under 20 people

$1700 for 20 people thereafter $80 per each additional person

Optional Lunch for an extra $30 per person

This is tax deductible as OBK is a registered charity

Minimum number of 8 people for each session, and they can take groups of up to 120 people.

If you are participating in this opportunity under community engagement time release, then you are covered by ACU's insurances. If you are accessing this opportunity as a volunteer outside of ACU, then you are NOT covered by ACU's insurance policies. If accessing this opportunity as a volunteer we strongly recommend you confirm with the organisation that they have appropriate insurance for volunteers.

This opportunity qualifies for community engagement time release (CETR)

As an ACU staff member, you can apply for up to five days each year to participate in approved community engagement activities that contribute to the common good, address social justice issues in the community, and help those experiencing disadvantage or marginalisation.
