Older people and people with a disability are more likely to experience illness, mobility issues, grief and loneliness and are at greater risk of experiencing social isolation than any other group of people. Your Side coordinates a range of daily activities and day trips in the community to extend social connections, keep participants healthy and active and enable them to simply enjoy life. These may include annual events and festivals in Sydney like the Sydney Royal Easter Show or the Vivid Festival, visits to theatres, art galleries, gardens or museums, yoga, Sailability and movies and lunches.
Volunteers will assist as a companion to people over 65, or people living with low to medium level disabilities. Duties may include:
Volunteers do not assist with personal care (which includes helping in the bathroom) or administering medication. Please note Your Side has a no lift policy for all staff and volunteers.
This opportunity is suited to students with strong people skills, who are approachable and friendly. Volunteers must demonstrate a genuine caring and compassionate attitude and a passion for working with people with a disability, older people or those experiencing marginalisation or disadvantage.
Your Side head office is in Chatswood. Activities and events are held in various locations around Sydney.
