The Bridge is a not-for-profit community-based organisation which provides a variety of support services for people of adult age who have various disabilities, including intellectual, physical, sensory and psychiatric disabilities.

There are various volunteer roles available at The Bridge including:

  • Activities Assistant (recreational, vocational, social)
  • Events Assistant (Friday night socials, Saturday night discos)
  • Employment Coaching Assistant (coaching and encouraging pre-employment trainees in their training as jobseekers)

The role

Activities Assistants support participants and staff with a range of activities throughout the day including: arts and crafts, carpentry, swimming, literacy, computer skills, sports, dancing, yoga, walking, theatre, choir, money skills, using public transport, gardening, cooking, fishing, mentoring etc.

Events Assistants assist the program staff on occasionally weekends with fun Friday social nights, Saturday discos and weekend outings to various locations.

Employment Coaching Assistants support the trainer to prepare adults with disabilities in the skills used to set goals, seek, find and succeed in paid work.

Volunteers needs to be professional in both attitude and presentation, flexible and focused team players with demonstrated personal initiative requiring minimal supervision.

We welcome volunteers for a minimum of 4-6 hours per week for a minimum commitment of 6 months. Activities and Employment Coaching programs run Monday – Friday. Events Programs run Friday nights, Saturday nights and for Saturday/Sunday outings. Reference can be supplied after 6 months.


We recruit and welcome new volunteers all year round.
