Open Table’s vision is to share free meals with the community made from surplus food in order to reduce food insecurity and food waste. On a weekly basis our lovely volunteers will drive around Melbourne to collect approximately 50 kilos of food for that week’s gathering - this includes fruits, vegetables and bags of bread donated by local businesses as well as established organisations who rescue fresh produce from supermarkets. This equates to approximately 2.5 tonnes a year.
Every event, a group of five to six volunteers will get together, spend a few hours cooking and serving up the meals buffet style with 30 - 70 people attending. Open Table needs volunteers to sign up to assist at events as event coordinators, kitchen hands, cooks and event assistants at locations across suburban Melbourne. This would suit students who are interested in extra curricular volunteering or wish to complete ad hoc volunteering hours.
Volunteers can sign up for various roles at Open Table events including kitchen hands, cooks, event coordinators and event assistants.
Locations across Melbourne, including Fitzroy, Carlton, Coburg, Glenroy and Fawkner.
Applications can be made via the Open Table website.
