The AMEP will teach Job‐seeking skills and help candidates to find employment in the Australian work force. Volunteers are needed for a minimum of 6 weekday mentoring sessions. These consist of goal setting, resume writing, interview skills and training in job search techniques. The participants come from difficult circumstances and disadvantage (war, refugee camps etc.) and have low levels of literacy and little to no computer skills. They will be paired with volunteer job search mentors who will help them one-on-one.

 


Position Description

  • Assisting mentors with setting up computers for weekly sessions.
  • Assisting participants with putting together resumes (e.g. sighting documentation, helping them with the wording, formatting and typing etc.
  • Helping participants research the online job market.
  • Providing support with interview training.
  • Researching industries of interest (including industry participants, course/qualifications etc.

Position Requirements

Volunteers need to be committed, have good verbal/written communication skills and be proficient in MS Office. HARDA are seeking culturally aware self-starters with an interest in working with and empowering people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

All members of the ACU community are actively involved in managing risk and log reports of incidents and hazards, and may log reports in relation to incidences that occur on community engagement placement. The report is entered into a system that the University has implemented, called Riskware. Prior to commencing placement with this organisation, students must familiarise themselves with the University’s risk management policy available here and ensure they are aware of the procedure in the unlikely event of an incident that relates to the health and safety of yourself or others.

It is a requirement of this placement that students read and familiarise themselves with the ACU Social Media Policy available here prior to commencement. commencement.

In addition, ACU Engagement also recommends that you do not:

  • Take photos of program participants and post to any social media platform.
  • Discuss program participants' names or other identifying features on any social media platform.
  • Make critical comment (positive or negative) of the placement organisation on any social media platform.
