Founded in 2016, Kicking Goals Together (KGT) is a sport for development program that operates on the Brisbane Campus. KGT provides a 16-week soccer tournament during semesters 1 and 2, which includes players from refugee and migrant backgrounds, as well as international student cohorts.
KGT partners with Multicultural Development Australia (MDA) to offer additional educational opportunities related to networking and personal brands, job seeking, English language skills, and leadership. KGT also partners ACU’s School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, ACU Sport, ACU International, and people with refugee and migrant backgrounds in local communities to deliver the program. In 2016, KGT won the ACU Vice-Chancellor and President’s award for outstanding community engagement. In 2017, KGT received support from a Brisbane City Council Healthy and Physical Activity grant. Last year KGT also received the Australian University Sport (Australian Sports Commission) Award for Community Leadership. Please like our Facebook page @KickingGoalsTogether.
Student roles in the program include assisting with the organisation and delivery of the KGT soccer tournament, assisting with the Skill Up (job skills) and English language (Aussie English Unpacked) programs where relevant, and helping to create a positive and welcoming environment for participants. There will also be an expectation to attend some planning meetings.
Commencing Wednesday 13th March 2019 until end of Semester 1, 2019 each Wednesday from 3.15pm to 6.30pm.
