THCT208 The Bible and Christian Ethics

Teaching Organisation The unit involves 150 hours of focused learning, or the equivalent of 10 hours per week for 15 weeks. The total includes formally structured learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, online learning, video-conferencing, or supervision. The remaining hours typically involve reading, research, and the preparation of tasks for assessment.

One of the legacies of the Reformation and its disputes about natural law is the existence of particular protestant traditions of using the Bible in ethical reflection. Against the background of classical ethical theories, protestant accounts of the authority of the Bible and modern hermeneutics, the unit aims to introduce students to the particular place of the Bible in protestant approaches to ethics and to develop their own critical skills for using the Bible in ethical reflection.
