Gender influences not only the way workers respond in practice but also informs the development of services which are gender specific, such as womens refuges and mens counselling services. The purpose of this course is to critically examine how feminist theories inform the development of human services work. The application of a number of feminist theories can be identified at all levels of practice - individual, group, community work, policy, research and management. The purpose of this unit is to explore in particular two aspects of feminist practice: groupwork and management.

Feminist practice is a creative and challenging aspect of contemporary human services work. Feminist perspectives have been influential in a number of areas including family violence, child protection, mental health, working with youth, disability services as well as in the provision of services to men and boys.
