PSYC731 Advanced Seminar in Psycho-Educational Practice

Prerequisites PSYC645 Learning Processes and Problems, PSYC646 Typical and Atypical Development and PSYC647 Advanced Educational and Developmental Assessment
Teaching Organisation 2 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent.

This unit provides students with specialised knowledge of standard assessment techniques and intervention strategies with respect to specific areas in Educational and Developmental Practice. The specific areas include child abuse, school refusal, ADHD, autism, depression, stress and coping etc. Practicing the full range of assessment skills will be a focus, including selecting relevant assessment tools, interviewing, observation, assessment, interpretation, diagnosis, planning and intervening, reporting, and evaluation. Providing remedies, interventions and information at the public policy, research, systemic, organisational, group, and individual levels will be a focus. The unit will also address specific considerations for Indigenous Australians as well as other culturally and linguistically different groups within the context of the provision of educational and psychological services.
